·         LO4: Be able to connect and configure platforms and devices to enable gameplay.
Scenario

Following on from your work as a researcher for Electronic Arts, you are now required to create a 2D platform game to showcase your research findings in an innovative way.

You will be required to design levels and produce assets. Prior to this, you are required to produce a technical demonstration that clearly showcases gameplay mechanics.

Task 1 – Software Technologies for Game Platforms

You must select two computer games and discuss the following in relation to your chosen games;

·         Platform Dependency
·         Operating Systems used
·         Drivers Needed
·         Application Software used (Programming)
·         Graphical API
·         Sound API
·         TV

Your discussion of your chosen games must be presented in the form of two word processed reports which should also include researched imagery and a video example for each game.

The title of this work should be titled Software Technologies for Game Platforms

Task 1 – Platform Game Showcasing Research

In addition, you must use Construct 2 to produce a platform game that will showcase your knowledge and research gathered for your previous Unit 20 assignment. You will need to submit a single file executable version of your completed research platform game. You will also need to produce a desktop screen-captured video of your game being played.

The title of this work should be titled Platform Game Showcasing Research

                                                                                           This provides evidence for P3, M3, D3
Task 2 – The Connection and Configuration of Game Platform

Produce a short video that demonstrates your ability to connect and configure a game platform and devices to enable gameplay.

This video should show the following;

·         Connection and configuration of display.
·         Connecting controller to platform.
·         The installing and configuration of a game of your choice.

The title of this work should be titled The Connection and Configuration of Game Platform

This provides evidence for P4, M4, D4

Task 2 – The Connection and Configuration of Game Platform

Below you can see a video displaying my ability too install a game and too connect and configure a game platform (PC).

Task 1 – Platform Game Showcasing Research

The Video below is showcasing my research I have collected via a 2D Game I have created using construct.

Task 1 - Software Technologies for Game Platforms

League of Legends
League of Legends was released on the 27th October 2009, League is a PC exclusive game and isn't available on any consoles. The game isn't very graphic dependent and requires a low operating system to run it.

When using certain OS Systems to run league of legends can make the fps vary, However even with a low FPS the game should run pretty good and isn't reliant on high FPS too be good or make the game look better. As the game has a simple design, However the argument is that the higher the FPS achieved on the game the higher your level of play will become even though this was never really proven. Due too the popularity of the game the OS system requirements have upgraded with the Systems but still function pretty well with the outdated software. Riot Games support these following OS Systems Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10

League of Legends Minimum Requirements

CPU Speed: 2 GHz processor
RAM: 1 GB RAM (Windows Vista and 7 users will want 2 GB of RAM or more)
OS: Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista SP1, or Windows 7
Video Card: DirectX 9.0 capable video card support Shader 2.0
Free Disk Space: 8 GB

League of Legends Recommended Requirements

CPU Speed: 3 GHz processor
RAM: 2 GB of RAM (Windows Vista and 7 users should use 4 GB of RAM or more.)
OS: Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista SP1, or Windows 7
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 8800/AMD Radeon HD 5670 or equivalent video card (Dedicated GPU with 512MB+ Video Memory(VRAM))
Free Disk Space: 12 GB

Below I will include the minimal hardware that is specified on the website.

Minimal Hardware

Minimum: 2.0+ GHz Processor*
*Players utilizing multi-core processors should still make sure that each core sports 2.0+ GHz.
Recommended: 2.4 GHz Dual Core Processor
MEMORY (RAM)
Minimum: 1 GB of RAM*
*Windows Vista and Windows 7 users will want 2 GB of RAM or more.
Recommended: 4GB of RAM
DISK SPACE
Minimum: 8 GB available hard drive space
Recommended: 12 GB available hard drive space

The Client that contains the store, profile info, reconnecting, everything outside of the game is made using the air platform, also the reason the client takes up 40% cpu and 100+ mb of memory just siting there doing nothing.

This Video is showcasing League of legend from very low graphics too very high graphics so thsat you can hopefully see the difference in if you used a lower end OS or hardware too the higher end models.

Riot games have recommended on there website too use either the Nvidia GeForce 8800 or AMD Radeon HD 5670 these are not the minimum but these would be recommended to get the peak and consistent 60 FPS on the game with high settings enabled.

The display is recommended at 60 hz too around 120 hz but people have stated online that they never really see the difference.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was released on the 21st August 2012, The game is a first person shooter and was created on multiple platforms such as Windows, Linux and also console platforms such as X-Box 360 and Playstation 3.

The Linux version was released in September 2014. It features classic content, such as revamped versions of classic maps, as well as brand new maps, characters and game modes. Cross-platform multiplayer was planned between Windows, OS X, Linux, and PlayStation 3 players,[3] but was ultimately limited to Windows, OS X, and Linux because of the differences in update-frequency between systems. The PlayStation 3 version offers three input control methods, which include using either the DualShock 3 controller, PlayStation Move or USB keyboard/mouse. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counter-Strike:_Global_Offensive

As you can read above these are multiple minimum requirements for CS:GO corresponding too multiple platforms it can be played on.

The video above is showcasing the difference between CS:GO being played at 60 down too 30 Fps. As you can see there isn't much difference.

The image above is showing the graphics fluctuation when played using different graphics cards so it allows you too see which one will give you the best performance possible.

The display which is recommended by pro players are as follows, BenQ XL2411Z, ASUS VG248QE, BenQ XL2430T. Most of these monitors run with 144hz and are very good and i am not surprised they are recommended for this game.
